20th NCOLCTL ANNUAL CONFERENCE CALL FOR PAPERS
the LCTL Mission: Advancing Intercultural Communication through Research and Practice for K-16.
Proposals are invited for individual papers, posters, and colloquia. All proposals must be submitted on or before 11:59p.m on September 30, 2016 (EDT; UTC-4).
Title: 20 words maximum
Abstract: 50 words
Proposal: one and half page (1000 word Max)
Proposals will be conditionally accepted or rejected within 1-2 weeks by the program committee and notices will be sent out by email. The conference registration fee MUST be paid by March 31, 2017 by all participants if your proposal is accepted. Payment of the registration fee will result in a final acceptance. Failure to pay the registration fee by March 31, 2017, will result in an automatic rejection.
Only those participants who are registered by March 31 2017 and receive notification of final acceptance will be published in the program.
As a paper presenter, each individual may make only one presentation. Individuals may chair or co-chair one panel or colloquium in addition to making one presentation. Individuals may not serve as both chairs and discussant on the same panel. If a participant is listed on multiple panels or colloquium on the program, they may be removed from panels and colloquium to ensure they adhere to the NCOLCTL participation policy.
Individuals who do not intend to attend the conference are discouraged from submitting proposals. And presenters who know that they cannot attend the conference are asked to withdraw their proposals as soon as possible to give another presenter a place in the program.
Electronic format is the only way in which Proposals/Abstract may be submitted for conference. We will not accept Proposals/Abstracts sent by email, hard copy, or fax.
Although proposed presentations may focus on individual languages, each paper should strive to address issues with relevance to many languages. Originality is Key. The focus of session topics includes;

- LCTL Teacher Training and Development
- LCTL Methodology
- LCTL Sustainability
- LCTL Innovation and Technology
- LCTL L2 Research
- LCTL Testing and Assessment
- Research and Assessment in Foreign language Teaching or Learning
Other topics for consideration would include heritage language learners: bilingual education students; autonomous and self-instructional settings; distance learning and technology use; outreach and advocacy initiatives curriculum and materials development. Teacher training and professionalization will also be welcomed.
COLLOQUIA allow for extensive discussion on a distinct topic. There are two different blocks of time: 1 hour and 30 minutes (typically 3-4 presenters/discussants) or 3 hours (e.g., 6-8 presenters/discussants). Colloquium organizers are to address topics that will foster dialogue among attendees and also address the conference theme. Preference will be given to colloquia that cut across different languages or language groups. Only limited number of 3 hour colloquia will be selected.
POSTER PRESENTATION may focus on completed work or work in progress related to the teaching and/or learning of less commonly taught languages. They may be in either: the traditional poster format, such as presentation of materials, or of research completed or in progress, or demonstrations of instructional or information technology. (NB, any proposal in this category requiring technical support must specify in detail the type of hardware or software needed). Poster presentations will be 60 minutes.
AUDIO VISUAL EQUIPMENT: Kindly note that AV equipment will not be available for poster presentations. Presenters may use their laptops if they wish and be advised to have their power cords to avoid any mishaps. All MAC USERS should please bring along their adaptors. Those needing audio capabilities in the presentation room should indicate this request at the time of submission.
To arrange informal meetings for those who wish to get together to discuss particular topics, please complete the Meeting Request Form. Such arrangements include meetings with organizational member groups, language specific meetings, editorial board meetings, and other networking opportunities. Requests for meetings will be considered if the time and space is available. Please submit these requests no later than 11:59 p.m. (EST) on December 31, 2015.
